What is Anki?
Anki (the Japanese word for "memorization") is, essentially, a flash card program which you download onto your computer (or Android phone).
How much does it cost?
Totally free (except $25 on iOS).
What good is Anki?
Anki has several merits.
1) Your decks of flash cards are stored on your computer. They don't take up space, can't get dirty, you can't lose them, et cetera.
2) Again, Anki is free. No more paying for 3"x5" note cards.
3) Anki is designed to give you the card when you're about to forget it, so to speak. That is, Anki gives you the card at the right time to transfer it from your short-term to long-term memory.
4) There are several hundred, if not thousands, of decks other people have made available online. They're all free. You can find decks from Spanish vocab to French sentences to Anatomy pictures to Geography to Mathematics to ACT vocab. Many of these decks have audio and pictures. Long story short: free decks of flash cards!
5) Simply making your cards help you memorize the material.
But I don't have regular access to the same computer.
You can run Anki from a memory stick. Also, you don't have to use Anki every day. Every three days or so is probably sufficient.
But I like my 3"x5" flash cards...
Double check the merits of Anki. Then again, Anki isn't for everyone.
